Albury paper mill worker killed and two critical after toxic gas leak

A worker died and two others are fighting for their lives after inhaling toxic gas at a paper mill.

Fire crews raced to the mill in Albury on the Victoria-New South Wales border at 3pm today.

Paramedics took 15 employees to hospital where two remain in critical condition.

Some 150 people have been evacuated as firefighters ventilate the Norske Skog mill. 

A spokesman for the mill told Daily Mail Australia the site has been closed down while WorkSafe investigates. 

It is not yet clear what the gas was or how it leaked.
