ALDI chocolate wine not available in Australia for Xmas

Rubis Chocolate, $16.69, is available throughout the Christmas season in the UK

Australian shoppers will miss out on another popular product from Aldi after it was announced that a highly-anticipated chocolate wine would not be available down under.

Shoppers in the UK have been snapping up Aldi’s new range of sweet dessert wines, most notably the Rubis Chocolate, which costs $16.69.

The 15 per cent wine, which won a ‘Silver Outstanding’ award at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in 2015 and 2016, is reportedly a ‘chocolate lover’s dream’.

‘Notes of rich cherry and red fruit enveloped in velvety premium dark chocolate means Rubis can be enjoyed as an after-dinner treat or on any special occasion,’ said the Rubis Wine website.

‘It can be served at either room temperature or chilled over ice for that ultimate chocolate experience.’

The wine, which is described as having hints of smooth dark chocolate, fruits and dried figs, will be available all over the UK in time for the holiday season.

But a spokesperson from ALDI Australia told the Daily Telegraph, ‘Unfortunately we won’t be selling chocolate wine, as indulgent as it sounds.’

‘ALDI operates in a number of countries, in which varying products are sold in each market.’

In a statement, ALDI explained further, ‘We are always listening to our customers and if chocolate wine is deemed to be in popular demand on Australian shores, we’ll be sure to pass this feedback onto the team.

‘In the meantime, there are a number of exciting liquor products set to be released over the upcoming Christmas period.

‘Shoppers can keep an eye out in catalogue and online to see what festive liquor will be in-stores next.’

This news comes a month after it was announced in the Daily Telegraph that the wildly successful wine advent calendar wouldn’t be available in Australia either.

Customers have flocked to the ALDI Australia Facebook page to demand that the budget supermarket bring the product to Aussie shores.

The ALDI Australia social media team replied to one of the enquiries by saying: ‘We offer different products in each depending on the demand locally.

‘We will let the team know you would love to see the Wine Advent Calendar available in our stores for Christmas.’
