Andy Murray’s wife Kim gives birth to second daughter

Andy Murray took to the tennis court just hours after his wife Kim gave birth to their second daughter.

The tennis star gave no hint of having become a father for the second time as he battled legend Roger Federer in an exhibition match in Glasgow yesterday.

Murray and his wife, who married in 2015, already have one daughter, Sophia, who arrived in February last year.

The latest addition to the proud Scot’s family is understood to have been born in England a few days ago.

His grandmother Shirley Erskine said: ‘All the family is delighted.’

Mrs Erskine, of Dunblane, said it was “lovely news” about the new arrival.

She said: “I’m delighted of course – another little great-granddaughter and hopefully another little playmate for big sister Sophia. It’s nice to get some good news. We were told that everything is well.”

Murray, 30, confirmed they were expecting their second child while he was playing at Wimbledon earlier this year. He said: ‘We’re both obviously very happy and looking forward to it.’

He spoke in the summer after Kim, 29, was seen covering her baby bump with a coat while watching him on court.

Murray is currently recovering from a hip injury and is not planning to return to top-level action until next year.

He was hoping to go to Australia early in the New Year to acclimatise ahead of the Australian Open in Melbourne in January.

But, with two young children at home, he may now have to reconsider spending a number of weeks thousands of miles from his family.

Murray has previously spoken about how fatherhood changed his life.

In a magazine interview last year, he said: ‘It definitely gave me perspective. I had to think a little bit more about what’s important, what my values are.’

News of the birth emerged shortly after Murray played in a charity tennis match at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow this week.

Commenting on his recovery yesterday, he said: ‘Things have been going pretty well so far in the rehab, but you just never know.

‘I’ve been training for a few weeks now. Some days I’ve felt great and some days not so good.’

Hours before the birth was announced, his mother Judy posted a tweet showing her with her two sons, next to the caption: ‘Happy Families.’

She later posted a link to coverage of her son’s match, adding: ‘Oh What A Night.’
