  • The skeletal remains of a snake have been found in the NSW Blue Mountains
  • The snake was found completely stripped bare of skin and flesh
  • A tour guide found the spooky site, uploading photos to Facebook on Friday

Bushwalkers were given a mighty fright after stumbling across the skeleton of a snake on Friday.

A tour guide in the New South Wales Blue Mountains came across the skeletal remains, posting the picture to Facebook.

The serpent’s skeleton can be seen stripped clean of any flesh as its remains lie on a bed of rocks.

Blue Mountains Day Tours said the snake was cleared of any remains by ants.

‘A snake has died and you are now seeing the remains after ants have devoured the snake and the cycle of life continues,’ the page captioned the photos.

While the species of snake is not known, the serpent was once quite the beast in size.

With its tail draped across the length of the rocks, the snake has been picked apart by ravaging ants.

Only a few scales remains on the bones of the creature’s head, with all other parts of the body eaten.
