Argentinian TV hosts hold minute’s silence after Lionel Messi and Co fall to 3-0 Croatia defeat at World Cup
Argentina’s defeat against Croatia on Thursday evening seemed like a death knell for their World Cup hopes.
While they still have a mathematical chance of reaching the knockout stages, the 3-0 loss and the earlier 1-1 draw against Iceland has put them in a difficult position.
If Iceland can beat Nigeria on Friday too, it will further damage their hopes of getting out of the group and reaching the last-16.
Argentinian TV presenters decided to hold a minute’s silence after their loss on Thursday
The South American side crashed to a shock 3-0 defeat against Croatia at the World Cup
Pundits and presenters alike on TyC Sports marked the defeat with a minute’s silence
Even so, presenters on Argentinian television may have gone a step too far with their post-match reaction.
After Jorge Sampaoli’s men fell to the shock 3-0 loss, unable to recover from a Willy Caballero mistake, they took the on-pitch funereal atmosphere into the TyC Sports studio.
And with Argentina’s hopes fading, they decided to hold a minute’s silence to express their sadness.
There were sombre expressions with slight smiles all around as the presenter and pundits tried to keep a straight face during the silence.
Jorge Sampaoli and his side now need results to go their way to advance from the group
Lionel Messi and Argentina now need a minor miracle over their last game and Friday’s fixtures to get out of the group.
If Iceland fail to beat Nigeria, they will still have a good chance of getting out of the group. But a win for the Scandinavian side would put them in a difficult position.
They would need to hope Croatia can beat Iceland in the last group game and win themselves by a significant margin against Nigeria to advance.
