Arsenal v Man United odds, Premier League betting tips

Arsene Wenger refused to be drawn on his long-standing rivalry with Jose Mourinho ahead of Arsenal entertaining Manchester United on Saturday night but he’s hardly likely to find a better time to talk about it.

Fair enough, his overall record is a bit of a sore point – two wins, seven draws and eight defeats – but the two victories weren’t that long ago and over the last four meetings the Frenchman’s run is a healthier-looking W2, D1, L1.

The Gunners have also sent United packing the last twice they’ve been at the Emirates, 2-0 back in May and 3-0 the time before, when Louis van Gaal was still in charge.

The hosts are 31/20 to make it three on the spin on their own patch against United. who are available at 2/1 with the draw 23/10.

Both teams go into this one with a bit of form, three league wins on the bounce since losing to a title rival – Arsenal to Manchester City and United to Chelsea.

Home fans will look back even further for reason to be cheerful though as Arsenal are on a run of 12 straight home wins in the league while Mourinho’s teams haven’t won any of their last 11 away games against the big six. And in the last 10 they’ve scored just one goal.

So, an Arsenal win? We sat on the fence for the north London derby but fell off it in shock when Mesut Ozil and Co turned in a hell of a display to put Tottenham in their place. But despite that result, followed by a gritty win at Burnley then a 5-0 rout of Huddersfield, the draw appeals again as these old rivals kick off a month where they’ll both play nine games.

Any score draw is 7/2, you can get 9/2 it’s all square at the break and the final whistle while 1-1 is 6/1, a goalless stalemate is 11/1 and 2-2 is on offer at 14s.

Ozil received a standing ovation against Spurs in mid-November, missed the Burnley game and was back on fine form against the Terriers where he scored just his second goal of the season. He’s been involved in four goals in his last four appearances against United (scoring two and assisting two) and on that form it’s no wonder Mourinho wants him at Old Trafford next term.

Ozil is 23/5 at any time and 11/1 for the opener while Romelu Lukaku is 24/5 for the first and 17/10 just to score – something he’s done just once in his last 11 games.

If runners and riders at bigger prices are more your thing, what about Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac (13/1 at any time) or United’s man of the moment Ashley Young at 10s.

A share of the points won’t help Arsenal or United in their title push when leaders Manchester City are hosting West Ham on Sunday.

A few firms have David Moyes’ boys at 28/1 to take the points – that’s the joint-biggest price of the season for a single game with Burnley the same odds before their 3-0 defeat at the Etihad in October.

Don’t expect us to be piling into City at 1/9 but there is a bet that catches the eye. City, for all their slicing through teams earlier in the season, haven’t scored a first-half goal in three games now (Feyenoord, Huddersfield and Southampton) and the wins have turned a bit ugly – like Pep Guardiola’s behaviour (with good intentions apparently) after the final whistle on Wednesday.

They’ll want to make a statement, a game against the hopeless Hammers offers a chance to do just that and an early goal is a decent shout. It’s 11/5 the deadlock is broken before 10 minutes have been played or 3/1 the opener arrives between 11 and 20.

The weekend starts with Chelsea against Newcastle at lunchtime on Saturday – a home banker if ever there was and the Blues are worth taking to win both halves at 17/10 while minus one on the handicap is 4/5 and minus two is 11/5.

In the 3pm games, Liverpool are no better than a skinny 1/2 to win at a Brighton side who haven’t lost at home since the opening weekend and have drawn their last four in front of their own fans. The hosts are 6/1 for the win and almost 4/1 in the draw no bet.

Sam Allardyce’s first game as Everton boss is at home to Huddersfield – no matter how much he’d have fancied taking the reins against Wets Ham in midweek – and it’s 8/11 he starts with a win.

Allardyce wasn’t the most popular choice among the Goodison Park faithful but he’ll have a human shield in pal and former Liverpool man Sammy Lee. With the ex-England chief able to get on with the job in hand, the Toffees are worth taking.  Huddersfield had the stuffing knocked out of them by Raheem Sterling’s late goal last week and could slip into reverse after that midweek mauling at Arsenal.

Leicester against Burnley has the look of a draw while Watford against Tottenham could also see the points shared.

Roy Hodgson said he knew what needed to be done to avoid defeat when he took his Crystal Palace side to Brighton so you’d back him to cope with whatever West Brom threw at him, even with former Eagles player and manager Alan Pardew now in charge. We’re on the stalemate in this one too. Elsewhere, Bournemouth host Southampton.
