Same-sex unions are set to become legal in Australia within DAYS after MPs voted ‘yes’ on the Marriage Equality bill in Parliament on Thursday.

And Australian A-listers could barely contain their jubilation and relief for the outcome, as they celebrated on social media. 

From global hit-makers, supermodels, reality stars and TV hosts: Here are the celebrities overjoyed by the history-making moment for the LGBTIQ community.

The Veronicas’ Jessica Origliasso, who is dating actress Ruby Rose, was emotional in her response to the ‘yes’ vote.

She told fans on Twitter: ‘I am in tears knowing that right at this moment today living in an equal Australia.’ 

‘It brings so much happiness to my heart that every baby born today in Australia will grow up knowing only that marriage is equal for everyone,’ Jessica continued.

Girlfriend Ruby Rose commented on the Tweet with a row of colourful hearts.

In a gallery on Instagram she shared photos of herself in rainbow dresses and signs that read: ‘Australia said yes!’

The pair have been dating since 2016, with Ian recently confessing to Woman’s Day that he’d like to start a family with his model beau.

During the speech he thanked politicians in Parliament for ‘getting on with it today and doing what they’d said they’d do’, adding he was ‘surprised, frankly.’

He added: ‘I am very thankful for our straight brothers and sisters who quite literally, without them and them voting for us, this could never have happened.’

Comedian Magda Szubanski was also in attendance and was seen clapping on Ian as he continued with his speech.

Only hours before the ‘yes’ reveal, she wrote on Instagram: ‘All culminating in this one day, this final deliberation. We’ve done all we can. We’re in the hands of the politicians now. Let’s hope it’s a good day to be gay.’

Meanwhile, former Bachelorette Georgia Love bemoaned the lengthy process it took to come to the positive conclusion: ‘Well done Australia. Far too late but here we are. Love wins.’

Singer Casey Donovan also wrote ‘Love is love’ on her Instagram page, while Ricki-Lee Coulter added: ‘YAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSS! In an historic vote – Australia just legalized same sex marriage!!!!!’
