Chanin reportedly claimed the shirt belonged to his girlfriend and the woman, Kamonthip Nambut, had not paid for it.

She refused to take off the top but said she would give it to him later.

A scuffle ensued as Chanin allegedly tried to force her to remove it, and Mr Marks stepped in to try to defend the woman.

Police allege Chanin then turned on the Australian tourist and begun to repeatedly stab him with a six-inch long knife he was carrying.

‘Chanin demanded that the woman take off her T-shirt and give it to him as the T-shirt belonged to his girlfriend and she had not paid for it,’ Maj Charan said.
