Baby girl taken off life-support

A four-year-old girl who was critically injured while still in her mother’s womb was taken off life-support on Friday.

Aurora Sky Brandi Ledoux miraculously survived the night her mother was killed by a drunk driver in Saskatchewan, Canada in July 2013.

Brandi Lepine was 26 weeks pregnant with Aurora when impaired driver Jeremiah Jobb collided into Lepine’s friend’s vehicle, according to CTV News.

Police later discovered that Jobb’s blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit and was sentenced to four years in prison.

Lepine’s friend, 21-year-old Taylor Litwin, had died at the scene of the accident, but the mother-to-be had lived long enough for doctors to perform a C-section and save Aurora’s life.

But the accident left the new-born baby girl with severe brain damage, leaving members of the Ledoux family shuffling in and out of hospitals.

But after years of treatment, and Aurora’s condition rapidly deteriorating, the family said it had to make the heartbreaking decision of taking her off of life-support.

‘It just hurts because I don’t get to see her graduate, I don’t get to see her go to kindergarten, I don’t get to see her experience all her little things that every little child should,’ Josie Ledoux, Aurora’s grandmother, told CTV.

Sara Mirasty, Aurora’s aunt, said she takes comfort knowing that her niece’s suffering is finally over.

‘She’ll be with her mom, her mom will be able to hold her, and finally be a mother . . . and I think her mom is just calling her home,’ Mirasty said.

‘It’ll just be empty, another empty space, because I think she was the main reason that helped us grieve and cope after Taylor and Brandi passed away,’ she added.

An estimated four people are killed every day due to intoxicated drivers, and approximately 65,000 Canadians are impacted by impaired drivers every year, according to nonprofit organization Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

‘It’s something that you never want to experience,’ Mirasty said. ‘Because once you experience it there’s going to be a hole in your chest and that hole will never be filled.’
