Barbara Taylor Bradford blasts Harvey Weinstein

Barbara Taylor Bradford has slammed shamed movie producer Harvey Weinstein for claiming to be battling sex addiction after scores of women accused him of assault.

The prolific 84-year-old author weighed in on the scandal that erupted in Hollywood while appearing on Good Morning Britain to promote her latest book, and revealed she had little time for ‘excuses’ from Weinstein or other high-profile men who have been similarly accused.

‘I don’t think they’re sick, it’s an excuse [the sex addiction]. It’s a lot of nonsense,’ she said.

‘I think it is always a powerful man that feels he has the that famous line “right of the lord of the manor” to have any woman he wants.’

Barbara also joked with presenter Piers Morgan that she would never include someone like Weinstein as a character in her novels.

‘Harvey is far too ugly to be in one of my books.’

Asked for her take on feminism by the GMB host, Barbara said she was a staunch believer in equal pay and equal rights for women.

But she added: ‘I don’t like these militant feminists who have an organisation… I never joined an organisation to liberate myself I did that when I went to work in a reporter’s room, I was the only girl and I was never harassed.’

Barbara, who was born in Leeds, became a reporter for the Yorkshire Evening Post at 16 before later becoming the first female editor on the paper.

She has been married for 54 years to Robert Bradford, and famously wrote a guide on How to be the Perfect Wife.

Barbara revealed she believes the key to a lasting marriage was picking up her husband’s socks.

‘I pick up anything he drops, socks, a towel, his money. I think it’s rather silly not picking up the socks, it’s childish, if they’re there pick them up and put them in the basket,’ she said.

‘I believe to have a long marriage, which I’ve had, you have to have a lot of tolerance and understanding and you love him obviously, you have got to want to stay together. You have to mother him a bit.’

When Pier’s co-host Susanna Reid later revealed the results of a GMB poll in which 75 per cent of viewers said they wouldn’t pick up after their partners, Barbara was shocked.

‘I find that extraordinary!’

Piers agreed much to Susanna’s dismay: ‘Isn’t it? So there are only 25 per cent of women who know how to behave in a marriage.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV from 6am
