Beauty Buzz: Lavish your lashes

Dashing lashes backstage at Chanel A/W 17

Lavish your lashes

I’ve never bothered to put mascara on my lower lashes, whether out of laziness or ineptitude. But thanks to the Chanel, MSGM and Jeremy Scott A/W 17 shows, I’ll happily stand corrected.

DHC Mascara Perfect Pro Double Protection (£15.90, dhcuk.co.uk) contains ‘tube technology’ that almost ‘shrink wraps’ lashes, minimising smudges and smears. You could try painting Eyeko Skinny Brush Mascara (£19, eyeko.com) from root to tip on each lash.

Or sweep Spectrum Collections A10 Small Fan Brush (£4.99, spectrumcollections.com) over the mascara wand, before feathering it over those fragile bottom lashes.

Not only does the look have a certain nonchalant French chic to it (see original muse Jane Birkin and model Louise Follain below), but it’s also an easy make-up tweak that nods to the new season in the simplest of ways.

Since Kérastase launched its in-salon mix-and-match Fusio Dose treatments in 2011, they’ve been my Holy Grail for instantly softer, smoother and less snappable lengths. Now, the five boosters, which include Brilliance, Reconstruction and Discipline, plus four concentrates that nourish, add shine, reduce breakage and increase volume, are available as HomeLab kits. Simply ask a salon expert to prescribe you a blend – then get set to supercharge your home haircare regimen.

When it comes to being swayed by new product propaganda, I try not to succumb to general hype. I have, however, fallen hook, line and sinker for Glossier.

Founded by Emily Weiss, creator of cult US site Into The Gloss, it’s a straight-talking skin and make-up collection that’s packaged with honesty. Driven by the desires of its digital followers, it’s also cool, quirky, modern and takes results seriously.

Try the Moisturizing Moon Mask (£18), Cloud Paint Blush in Beam (£15) or the Balm Dotcom universal skin salve in untinted Coconut, Mint or Birthday, which comes with a light bouncing shimmer (£9). All available mid-October from glossier.com.
