Beauty Knowhow: Your new beauty heroes

These products will change your life!

After bringing you our favourite 50 beauty buys under £20 last week (if you missed out, find it at you.co.uk – and please do comment about any products you love, we want to hear about them), this time I’d like to highlight ten of my top new launches. These are the products that, in a constant sea of newness, I think you ought to know about. I’ve tried them all and rate them highly, so I hope you’ll enjoy using them as much as I do.

THE SUPER-CLEAN CLEANSER

Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Cleansing Ritual, £32.50, charlottetilbury.com

A wonderful cleansing duo that left my skin squeaky-clean, bright and feeling plump and moisturised. First, massage in the vitamin-C infused, lemony-smelling oil. Next, rub in the charcoal-based cleanser. Remove both with the muslin cloth included in the set.

THE LINE BLURRER

Trinny London Miracle Blur, £26, trinnylondon.com

This launched late last year and is so popular it has already sold out – but new stock is expected on 28 January. It’s a clever little pot of magic that can make small wrinkles ‘vanish’. Do not expect it to cover up deep lines or face crags – I tried it on my ‘11’ frown lines with no joy. But smaller lines, such as those about the lips, are filled into invisibility. A great smoothing operator.

THE COVER-ALL CONCEALER

Giorgio Armani Power Fabric High Coverage Concealer, £32, selfridges.com and, from Wednesday, armanibeauty.co.uk

It’s no surprise that this is a winner – for when has this brand ever produced a dud? Never, is the answer. The concealer’s creamy texture feels lightweight but gives incredibly good, yet totally natural-looking coverage. It is more than enough on its own to give my face that fresh, relaxed look – and call the bluff of any tired dark circles. Available in 20 shades.

THE ECO FACE MASK

The Body Shop Drops of Youth Sheet Mask, £5, thebodyshop.com

The brand’s first sheet offering is very good for a boost of freshness and hydration in 15 minutes. But of as much, if not more, importance is the fact that it biodegrades in one month without harming the environment or any organisms living in it. It’s made of Veocel – botanic fibres derived from a renewable source and responsibly managed forests. I hope soon all sheet masks will be as eco friendly.

THE FACE OIL YOU NEED NOW

Irene Forte Orange Blossom Face Oil, £99, ireneforteskincare.com

I’ve long been a fan of Irene Forte’s work – part of the Rocco Forte Hotels family – and her hotel-only range of organic products. Now she’s got her own collection available online and though I love much of it, I’ll highlight the face oil for now. It’s expensive but you only need a small amount as it goes far. It was absorbed quickly and left my permanently dehydrated skin feeling shipshape and looking fresh.

THE REJUVENATING SERUM

Allies of Skin Mandelic Pigmentation Corrector Night Serum, £88, cultbeauty.co.uk

One of the latest launches from this uber-brilliant back-to basics skincare brand that aims for effortlessness, speed and efficacy. Mandelic acid is a gentler AHA (which dissolves dead skin cells) that is combined here with lactic and salicylic acids to exfoliate overnight without irritation and to help reduce pigmentation. It also keeps skin hydrated. My current favourite overnighter.

THE MIRACLE MICELLAR

Bioderma Hydrabio H2O pump, £19.50, feelunique.com

This micellar water cleanser is already a beauty legend as it is a whiz at gently removing make-up. Now it’s available for a limited time with a pump-dispenser cap, making it even easier and more practical to use. Grab one (only in 500ml) while you can – and let’s hope that in the meantime Bioderma realises it would be a good idea to make it a permanent offering. A classic with a great twist.

THE HAIR REFRESHER

Redken Dry Shampoo Paste, £19.55, Redken salons and lookfantastic.co.uk from February

I’m not generally a fan of alternative dry shampoos – I like a canister I can shake, with a nozzle that applies evenly, so when I’m really pushed for time I can extend a blow dry for several days. But this is worth trying. Part dry shampoo, part styling paste, it’s great for getting an extra day out of dirty hair while also bringing some proper root lift and styling body. Definitely on my emergency, lazy-day beauty shelf.

THE BLOW-DRY BOOSTER

Living Proof Restore Smooth Blowout Concentrate, £26, livingproof.co.uk

This serum is for long, thick or coarse hair that can take a while to dry. It claims to speed up the process and leave locks looking smooth and heat protected until the next wash. I’m cynical about many hair products – but this really did speed up the drying process by over half the time. I even tried it by using it on only one side of my head to check that it wasn’t just wishful thinking on my part. I loved the results and it’s turned my barnet into a frizz-free zone.

THE MULTI-TASKING EYE PEN

Givenchy Dual Liner, £27, debenhams.com from February

You’ve likely seen the blush/highlighter combo sticks that many brands offer. Givenchy has taken that notion and created a pen that delivers eyeliner plus shadow in one swipe. I’ve tried the blue and green and really like them. I wouldn’t normally choose these colours but there’s something about how they’ve been combined and the fact that you can apply them lightly to get more of a Monet-watercolour effect that makes them wearable, easy and requires no application skills.
