The 17-year-old’s family on Sunday evening said he was resting after being placed under heavy sedation.

‘He has had a CT scan clearing him of any injury but now the waiting game happens for at least the next 24 hours before they start taking him off the drugs and finding out if there is any brain damage,’ they said in a statement.

‘Thanks for all the texts, best wishes from the gullies admin, parents and his teammates.’

Brighton Districts junior captain Gustav Martin offered his best wishes from the opposing team mates.

‘As captain of the Brighton under 18s team, I wish on behalf of all the players for Tyler to have a full and speedy recovery,’ he said.

One man praised the quick thinking of the emergency service response team, explaining: ‘… I’ve heard from the paramedics that the first aid care provided was absolutely exceptional and most certainly saved Tyler’s life…fantastic job well done.’
