Brazilian singer and actress Xuxa Meneghle has lost an eight-year battle with Google in which she tried to remove her name from searches for a pedophile film she made in Brazil when she was 19.
Xuxa, who has dated the likes of John Kennedy Jr and former Brazilian soccer player Pele, had been fighting with Google to get them to remove the term ‘Xuxa Pedophile’ from its search engine.
After a lengthy battle, Brazil’s Supreme Court has now ruled that the 55-year-old cannot move forward with a new claim against tech giant.
The court found that Google had the right to link to content that is public and it should not have to remove her name from the ‘Xuxa Pedophile’ search term.

That particular search term brings up images from the 1982 film ‘Love Strange Love’ in which Xuxa’s character seduced a 12-year-old boy.
She had to film controversial scenes lying on top of the young actor, as well as kissing and touching him. The scenes have resulted in the film being linked to pedophilia.

‘Search providers perform their searches within a virtual universe, whose access is public and unrestricted, ie, its role is limited to the identification of web pages where certain data or information, even if illegal, are being freely made available,’ the judgement in favor of Google read.
‘Thus, although the search engine facilitate access and the consequent dissemination of pages whose content is potentially illegal, these pages are public as parts of the world wide web and therefore appear as results of the research sites.’
The cult film, which Xuxa starred in before becoming famous, won awards at the time, but it has subsequently haunted the actress for the duration of her career.
Xuxa won legal battles in her country to stop the distribution of the film.
But a bootlegged version of the movie sold more copies than ever and made its way to the United States, forcing her to defend herself against pedophile claims.

The movie scenes were so controversial that Cuban radio talk show host Cristina Saralegui, who is considered to be the Latino Oprah, once confronted the singer on live TV making Xuxa extremely uncomfortable.
While Xuxa has claimed she was naïve and young at the time, the star has been unable to shy away from the fact that she seduced the young teen on camera.
The teen in the film, Marcelo Ribeiro, was later tracked down in Brazil in his 40s. Due to the films notoriety, Ribeiro went on to make a porn movie in 1979 based on real life events.
