Brisbane father pleads guilty to murdering daughter

A Brisbane father has pleaded guilty to murdering his six-year-old daughter at the family’s home in 2015.

Sidney Playford was found dead in her bedroom by her mother on the morning of September 7- two days after her sixth birthday. 

Her father, Stephen Phillip Playford pleaded guilty in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Wednesday to her murder.

Playford will remain in custody and be sentenced in the same court on December 20.

Sidney was found dead in her bed at the family’s Kedron home by her mother Maria.

She called emergency services but when paramedics arrived they concluded Sidney had been dead for hours.

Stephen Playford, an international mining businessman, was arrested on the Gold Coast days later and charged with murder.

The young girl was farewelled by about 150 people at her funeral in 2015.

Her service was held at St Agatha’s Catholic Church in Clayfield, in Brisbane’s inner north.
