Brits work three times harder for a pint than Belgians

  • Experts compiled data on salaries and pint prices in countries around the world
  • Citizens of Monaco must work for only four minutes to earn a £1.50 pint of beer
  • In the UK however, a pint costs £3 and Brits must work for 31 minutes to buy one

The British workforce is already known for putting in some of the longest office hours in Europe.

And what with the price of alcohol in the UK, it should come as no surprise that Brits end up working harder to afford a well-earned beer at the end of the day – three times harder than Belgium, for instance.

New research which analysed the average salaries and the cost of a pint in countries around the world revealed that Monaco citizens only need work for four minutes to earn a £1.50 pint; while employees in Azerbaijan must work the longest – an hour and 22 minutes.

That’ll be hard to swallow: Brits must invest 31 minutes of work to fund a £3 pint, with their average £1,777 monthly wage

The data, compiled by SilverDoor Apartments, is based on the median monthly salary and the average price of a pint of lager in each country.

This was then used to calculate how many minutes it would take for workers around the world to earn enough to buy a pint.

Depressingly, the British must invest 31 minutes and 48 seconds of work to fund a £3 pint, with their average £1,777 monthly wage.

In comparison, a professional living and working in Belgium requires just nine minutes of work to afford a £1.27 per pint from their £1,527 monthly pay.

More fortunate than them, however, are those residing in Leichtenstein.

Staff in the principality between Austria and Switzerland need only invest seven minutes and 12 seconds of their day to bankroll a £3.15 pint from their £4,488 pay packet.

Conversely, those in Serbia, Moldova and Macedonia must work an average of 33 minutes before having the funds to purchase a pint.

Spare a thought for those in Azerbaijan, however. They fare the worst of all, needing to do a whopping 1 hour, 22 minutes and 48 seconds of work for a £1.50 beverage.

That may seem excessive, but their average monthly income is just £191
