‘I saw the snake and told her to move,’ he said.

‘My wife grabbed her, then I felt the sharp pain in my foot.’

Mr Harrison said he jumped in to shield his young granddaughter from the deadly snake.

‘I’m bigger than her and I can take the pain and she wouldn’t be able to,’ he said.

Mr Harrison said he waited inside for the ambulance to arrive.

Paramedics gave him morphine before he was taken to hospital.

The grandfather revealed it wasn’t the first time he had been bitten by a snake.

He was bitten in the same spot in November last year and vowed to never venture to that part of the backyard again.

‘The third time I may not be so lucky so I’m not doing the yard work ever again,’ he said.
