One of the favourite Australian hardware stores has been forced to cancel their iconic sausage sizzle because it’s too hot. 

The extreme heatwave blasting most of the east coast has left some rumbling tummies in Melbourne.

In a photo shared to social media, a Bunnings chalkboard sign said the classic sizzler was cancelled. 

‘Due to extreme heat predictions there will be no sausage sizzle today,’ it read.

The scorcher melted about 10 kilometres of the Hume Highway road causing major traffic delays. 

Sydney will also feel the heat with tops of 38C expected on Saturday. 

Both cities will get some relief Sunday, with Melbourne expected to drop to 21C and Sydney to 33C.

Authorities have issued warnings against the heatwave, encouraging people to stay indoors or go to air conditioned places like libraries and shopping centres.
