Canberra fire bodies found house police investigate arson

  • Three people found dead inside house after fire raged at property in Canberra
  • Fire crews called to the house in suburb as searches of house discovered bodies
  • Woman and two children thought to be the victims as fire treated as suspicious

Three people have died – including two young children – in a house fire in Canberra.

Police are investigating whether the blaze at the property in Bonner on Monday morning was started deliberately.

A second search of the property carried out this afternoon led to the grim discovery of the bodies – despite an earlier search confirming no people were inside.

A woman was among the dead and two children, Seven reported.

This has not yet been confirmed by the Australian Capital Territory Policing and detectives remain at what is now being treated as a crime scene.

Witnesses reported the fire at 8.40am when smoke was seen billowing from the roof and called fire crews.

But it wasn’t until Monday afternoon when a second search after an initial structural assessment took place that the bodies were found.
