A care worker decided to end her troubled six-year relationship after seeing what she thought was her grandmother’s ghost behind her in a photo.
Carla Underwood, who says she is a psychic medium, was discussing her tumultuous relationship in a Worcester cocktail bar when she decided to take a photo.
The 34-year-old was stunned when she later looked at the image to see what she thought was the spirit of her grandmother Irene Wilkins, who died in 1982 when she was just a baby.
Ms Underwood, from Quedgeley, Gloucestershire, thought it was a sign encouraging her to end her relationship.

She said: ‘At the time of the picture I was feeling lost. I was in a six-year relationship. I asked in my head if I should move on and to give me a sign.
‘I was with my mum and step dad, he does these re-enactments and had this hat, so we decided to try it on for a photograph.
‘I didn’t see the picture until later when I was at my mum’s and I saw the face in it. I wanted a big sign but I wasn’t expecting that at all, it blew me away.
‘I know it was a sign – I needed that sign and I listened to it. I would say it’s a spirit.’
Ms Underwood said her brother, trained medium Lee Thomas, suggested to her that the eerie aide in the photo could in fact be her grandmother.
She said: ‘My brother was saying he thought it was my nan. The hair looks the same as hers in the picture.
‘Sadly I never knew her, she died when I was a baby from pneumonia.
‘I feel grateful and a bit more reassured knowing there’s someone there watching over me. It makes me feel like I’m being looked after.’
Ms Underwood, who says she has always been a believer, claims social media users were stunned at the phenomenon shown on the picture after she shared it online.
Bizarre: Ms Underwood, from Quedgeley, Gloucestershire, thought the ‘spirit’ was a sign encouraging her to end her relationship
And after following the spirit world signal by moving on from her relationship, she says she finds the photograph to be a comforting memento.
Ms Underwood said: ‘People were commenting on the picture, saying ‘what the hell?’
‘There was nobody stood behind me in the bar when the photo was taken.
‘I don’t know what I’d say to people who would challenge it. You’ve got to experience something to believe.
‘I keep the picture and look at it often. Some people will probably be freaked out by it, but I’m not anymore.’
And she says it’s all just part of a series of life experiences that come with being born with the medium gift.

Ms Underwood said: ‘I’m from a family of mediums. I’ve always seen stuff when I was growing up but only realised it was anything until later on.
‘I’ve been to a few medium readings, I just feel drawn to it.
‘I’ve always been a believer, I’m a very spiritual person. I use tarot cards, and what they have said always comes true.
‘It was different when I was a kid as I used to find it all scary, but I’m a bit more at ease with it all now. I find it to be quite therapeutic and healing.
‘I think if you are feeling lost, spirits will come through to help you.’
