Celebs outraged over Trump’s ‘s***hole countries comment’

Celebrities and political commentators shared their outrage Thursday night over President Trump’s reported description of Haiti, El Salvador and African nations as ‘s***hole countries.’

During an afternoon Oval Office meeting about immigration with lawmakers, Trump reportedly asked the room: ‘Why are we having all these people from s***hole countries come here?’ according to the Washington Post.

He’s said to have made the comments while pushing against reinstating protections for immigrants from those countries. According to the Post he then said that the US would be happy to welcome immigrants from countries such as Norway.

Trump denied making the comments Friday morning, but not before they ignited Thursday’s news cycle as movie stars, comedians, musicians and talk show hosts all condemning the President as racist.

CNN's Don Lemon also expressed his outrage over the alleged remarks, saying that while he couldn't tell Trump or his supporters to go f*** themselves, he can be a southerner and tell them 'bless your hearts'

‘Daily Show’ host Trevor Noah came for Donald especially hard, saying: ‘I don’t know how break this to you, but I think the president might be racist.’

Noah used his own experiences, as someone from an African country, to explain why he felt that way.

‘Personally, as someone from South S***hole, I’m offended, Mr President,’ the host said.

‘Because not only does he think brown countries are s***holes, he thinks, what, we’re never going to know what he said? I mean, don’t get me wrong, it might take a new weeks, but once the news donkey reaches our village we’ll be so mad.’

CNN’s Don Lemon also expressed his outrage over the alleged remarks, saying that while he couldn’t tell Trump or his supporters to go f*** themselves, he can be a southerner and tell them ‘bless your hearts.’

‘You know what you can do? I can’t say that,’ Lemon said. ‘But you can go read a book, a history book. Because you might learn that some of the people from those s***hole countries were slaves who were brought here by force to help build this country, and then start your learning process from there.’

Other late night hosts, including Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel and Jordan Klepper, also made similar proclamations about Trump’s latest faux pas.

‘Sir, they are not s***hole countries,’ Colbert said in his opening monologue on ‘The Late Show’. ‘For one, Donald Trump isn’t their president.’

Kimmel devoted most of his show ‘Live!’ to talking about the incident, starting out by reminding his viewers that ‘this is an actual quote from the actual president of the United States.’

He later called the comments ‘unfathomable.’

During ‘Late Night’ Seth Myers introduced a new segment in response to the president’s comments called ‘Seth has to step away for a minute,’ in which he got up out of his chair and walked to the corner of his screen while mumbling incoherent frustrations.

And Klepper, host of Comedy Central’s ‘The Opposition,’ delivered a scathing review dripped in sarcasm.

‘Yup, now that’s how you speak truth to powerlessness,’ he said of Trump’s slight.

‘I know what you’re thinking: What do Norwegians have that Haitians and Africans don’t? It’s simple. They’re all white-knuckle enthusiasts about making America great again.’

Musician John Legend also expressed his outrage over the President's alleged comments

Anderson Cooper choked back tears as he emotionally discussed the issue on CNN on Thursday, giving a touching tribute to the people of Haiti and apologizing on Trump’s behalf.

‘Let me be clear…. the people of Haiti have been through more, withstood more, fought back against more injustice… than our President ever has,’ he said.

Musician John Legend also expressed his outrage over the President’s alleged comments.

‘The president is a racist,’ he wrote, point blank. ‘He has been for his entire public life. If you vote(d) for him, you do so because of that or despite that. We need a multi-racial anti-racist coalition to defeat him and try to heal our nation.’
