  • The triumph is bittersweet, expected to be her last time on her home track

Champion mare Winx has won the George Rider Stakes, making it her 32nd win in a row.

But the triumph is bittersweet, with the win expected to be the final time she competes on her home track at Rosehill Racecourse in Sydney.

After an illustrious career –  in which she has broken every Australian racing record and cemented herself among other champion horses, Black Caviar and Makybe Diva –  Winx is expected to compete one final time before transitioning into retirement.

Her trainer Chris Waller previously said the autumn carnival would likely be her penultimate race, before finishing her career at the Queen Elizabath Stakes at Randwick on April 13.

Mr Waller describes his mare as ‘picture perfect’, but is determined to avoid letting emotions get in the way of seeing Winx through her final race.

‘Rosehill has been her place of training for the majority of her career and it’s where she lives. So it’s her home track,’ Waller said.

He went on to say how Winx manages to exceed expectations in all weather conditions, and that his main focus is always on making sure she is 100 per cent.

Racing officials in Victoria have previously mentioned they would like to lure her down to the state for a final attempt at the Cox Plate during Spring Racing Season, but her team haven’t publicly addressed the rumour.

The most recent win gives Winx a hat-trick of Group 1 wins.

She has won the the four most recent George Ryder Stakes competitions since 2016.

She also has four straight Cox Plates and Chipping Norton Stakes under her belt.

The mare is the most celebrated in Australian racing history, edging out Black Caviar, who ended her career on 25 wins.

She has been unbeaten since May 16, 2015, when she won the Sunshine Coast Guineas.
