City worker, 30, ‘strangled with his tie after he accidentally enraged his attacker by waking him as he slept in front of the entrance to his office’

  • Businessman says he was attacked as he left his Melbourne office after work
  • Video footage shows Simon Breheny’s confrontation with the barefoot man
  • ‘Excuse me, I need to get out,’ the worker told the man blocking the entrance
  • However, after Mr Breheny left the building, he says he was attacked by the man

A businessman says he was viciously attacked by a barefoot thug as he walked out of his office on a Wednesday evening.

Video footage shows Simon Breheny, 30, trying to leave his Melbourne workplace through the fire exit, but a man lying on the ground is blocking the door’s entrance.

Mr Breheny, who works as policy director at a think tank, politely asked the man to move, saying, ‘Excuse me mate, I need to get out.’

The man moved but then, after the businessman left the building in Collins Street in Melbourne’s city centre, he says he was chased by him.

The enraged man then attacked Mr Breheny by pushing him to the ground where his glasses were smashed, he claims.

Mr Breheny said the thug took his glasses and threw them in the bin before attempting to strangle the office worker.

‘He grabbed me by the tie and had me up against the wall and he was strangling me with my tie,’ Mr Breheny told 9NEWS.
