Coach driver unwittingly recreates scene from The Italian Job

This is the heart-stopping moment a coach is left teetering over the edge of a sheer drop down to fast flowing waters in a scene reminiscent of the Italian Job.

In the clip, a coach driver can be seen trying to slowly inch his way around a tight bend but drastically fails and the vehicle ends up dangling off the edge of a cliff.

The moment was captured at the Ituango Dam, which is currently under construction, in Ituango, a town and municipality in the Colombian department of Antioquia.

The coach, which usually transports tourists, was carrying no passengers at the time of the incident and the driver was saved by emergency services.

A police squad reportedly managed to haul the vehicle back onto the road using a crane, returning the driver to safety.

The safety barriers which were in place prevented a much more serious incident, and authorities claimed they are working to increase security measures in the area.

The Italian Job is a 1969 film with Michael Caine which sees a team of British crooks led by Charlie Croker (Caine) steal millions in gold bars in Turin, Italy, using three Mini Coopers.

The final scene of the film leaves them dangling over the edge of a cliff in the Alps with the gold just out of their reach. A sequel had been planned, but was never made.

The Ituango Dam made headlines some months ago after floods forced the evacuation of 25,000 families and delayed the construction work for at least three years, according to reports.
