Coles releases a Lamington Christmas Pudding for holidays

Unlike gifts under the Christmas tree, a fluffy pavlova at the dinner table, and frolics on the beach, Christmas pudding rarely brings to mind warm holiday feelings.

The classic traditional dish, filled with dried fruit and soaked in syrup, is not a dessert many admit to love.

But now Coles is giving the treat a twist that it hopes will find new fans thanks to an especially Aussie spin.

The supermarket chain has launched The Lamington Pudding as part of its new Christmas range.

The $7 creation is a pudding topped with chocolate sauce and desiccated coconut in reference to the beloved Australian cake.

It also swaps the Christmas pudding’s foundation of dried fruit and treacle for a sponge base instead, giving it a much lighter feel that mimics a Lamington.

‘For those keen to try something new, our Coles Lamington Sponge Pudding is a sweet twist on an iconic Aussie favourite that can be enjoyed throughout the festive season,’ Coles General Manager Bakery Jon Haggett told Daily Mail Australia .

Haggett also revealed that Coles has decided to bring back its Finest Luxury Christmas Pudding with sugar gold glitter.

The supermarket likewise launched Gingerbread and Butterscotch Sponge Pudding ‘to give customers a pudding which is a fun take on the festive Gingerbread man’, he added.

This is hardly the first time an Australian supermarket has tried to upgrade the traditionally English dessert.

Last year Coles released the Chocolate & Salted Caramel Christmas bomb, which came not only with a secret caramel center but also Belgian chocolate that melted into the pudding when it was heated up.

Woolworths also jumped on the pudding bandwagon, giving the Christmas dessert a luxurious twist with a gold Belgian white chocolate mud cake.

Although the holidays are still two months away, the Lamington Pudding is already on shelves today.

The pudding also stays true to the Lamington's coconut topping for a holiday treat that is much lighter than the English classic
