College football player dies hours after saying he was ill

  • Clayton Geib, 21, complained he wasn’t feeling well after he played in the Wooster College football game on Saturday

A college football player in Ohio died after being hospitalized after a game Saturday when he complained he didn’t feel well.

A College of Wooster spokesman says 21-year-old Clayton Geib died Sunday afternoon at Wooster Community Hospital. 

A college spokesman, Hugh Howard, said he couldn’t provide any details about what caused Geib’s death.

The London, Ohio native was a senior offensive lineman on the team. 

He had started started at right guard in Saturday’s 38-20 home win over Ohio Wesleyan University.

According to the school’s website he was a key player during last season, helping the school rank within the top 30 of Division III in passing offense. 

Geib was a success in his academics as well. 

He was a member of the North Coast Athletic Conference’s Academic Honor Roll for the second straight year as of 2016.

‘Clayton was a wonderful student and member of the College of Wooster community, and beloved by many,’ school president Sarah R. Bolton said in a statement to Cleveland.com.

‘Our hearts are breaking, and all our prayers and thoughts are with Clayton’s family, teammates, and friends,’ Bolton added.
