Coronation Street spoiler: David Platt proposes to girlfriend Shona

There’s set to be wedding bells for Coronation Street fans over the coming days, after David Platt proposes to girlfriend Shona.

According to Digital Spy, advance TV listings have revealed that the long-serving character will finally pop the question after a difficult few months, which saw him raped by the villainous Josh Tucker.

This will be the third big proposal to hit Coronation Street over the summer weeks, after spoilers also revealed that both Steve McDonald and Daniel Osbourne will ask to marry Tracy Barlow and Sinead Tinker respectively.

Getting married! Coronation Street’s David Platt is set to propose to girlfriend Shona in the coming weeks, as the couple continue to move forward following his horrific rape ordeal

Spoilers for episodes of the ITV soap had shown that David will finally get down on one knee and propose to Shona, only for the response to be less spectacular than he hoped.

A synopsis for the first episode of a double bill set to air on Wednesday July 4th reads: ‘David’s proposal leaves Shona in shock’ while the following episode says: ‘Shona’s lukewarm response annoys David.’

Fans will be left wondering David and Shona can really make it down the aisle, as their relationship continues to be tested by Josh’s presence on the Street.

No thanks! Sadly spoilers have hinted that Shona will be less-then impressed by David's proposal, so fans will have to wait and see whether they make it down the aisle

David was the victim of a horrific male rape by Josh in March, and the pain suffered by the bottling up of his emotions led David to brink of suicide.

It took the news of Aidan Connor’s death for David to finally come back from the brink of despair, and he finally opened up to Shona about his ordeal.

The surprise scenes come as one of three proposals to rock the cobbles this summer, as it was revealed earlier this week that Steve McDonald and Daniel Osbourne will also pop the question.

Fan were left stunned when Tracy (played by Kate Ford) and Steve (Simon Gregson) reunited late last year on a Christmas Eve whim, and despite a few bumps in the road have managed to stay together.

Steve’s guilt will finally get the better of him this week as he confesses to the florist about his secret kiss with Michelle (Kym Marsh), which nearly led her fiance Robert (Tristan Gemmill) to do a runner from their wedding day.

Desperate to reassure her, Steve tells Tracy he loves her and asks whether they should get married, leaving Tracy elated but the Streetcars owner immediately regrets the decision.

Inevitably fans do not have high hopes that the relationship will pan out given Steve and Tracy’s past history, with this set to be his seventh trip down the aisle.

Steve and Tracy’s last wedding in 2012 ended in disaster after she was exposed by Becky McDonald (Katherine Kelly) for lying about miscarrying twins.

The son of Ken Barlow is finally given that much-needed push by his kind-hearted lodger Flora (Eileen Davies), who offers him her mother’s old engagement ring.

Following the advice Daniel finally gets down on one knee to ask Sinead that question, but fans will have to wait and see whether she says yes.
