The Spanish sports newspapers have been unanimous in their admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid after their Champions League victory over PSG.

Real came from behind to beat PSG 3-1 at the Bernabeu in the first leg of their round of 16 clash, and Ronaldo was once again the hero.

His penalty drew Real level after Adrien Rabiot’s opener, and he scored his 100th Champions League goal for the club with seven minutes to play, before Marcelo made it three late on.

According to Marca, Real Madrid found their ‘pride’ in order to ‘come back like a champion’. They also criticised Neymar’s anonymous display for PSG, saying the former Barcelona man had played ‘like a ghost’.

Rival paper AS also featured Ronaldo heavily, with him celebrating his second goal as their front page picture, with the headline ‘How am I not going to love you’.

They also found space to praise his team mates, with a quote from captain Sergio Ramos saying ‘you can never rule out Madrid’. AS also said Marco Asensio had ‘revolutionised’ the game after coming on as a sub at 1-1.

The European papers were also scathing of Neymar, who had endured a poor game, being booked for a hack before being lucky to escape a sending off for diving.

Mundo Deportivo splashed with the headline ‘Neymal’ – ‘Mal’ being Spanish for bad – and said ‘Neymar and PSG were like rookies as they crumpled against Madrid.’

L’Equipe, the leading sports paper in France, were barely more positive, although they did claim in their front page headline that ‘Ce n’est pas fini’ – It is not finished – while the match report was titled ‘Mission Possible’.

In their notoriously hard player ratings, they gave the £200m striker a four out of 10 – with the same score given to Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe.

Some PSG players were judged even worse – holding midfielder Gio Lo Celso was given two, while manager Unai Emery was awarded a three out of 10.

Despite their impressive performance, L’Equipe scored no Real player higher than seven – Ronaldo among them.
