  • Ahead of the game on Wednesday, Cristiano Ronaldo sent a message to fans

Cristiano Ronaldo has called on Real Madrid’s fans to play their part in helping the side overcome PSG in the Champions League last 16.

The two European heavyweights clash in the first leg at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night in a game Ronaldo has called a ‘very important match against a great team’.

Speaking in a video that was posted on Real Madrid’s English language Twitter account, Ronaldo added: ‘What me and the team are asking for is your unconditional support like always and together we will be much stronger. Hala Madrid!’

Ronaldo’s rallying cry comes just days after he expressed his disappointment towards fans who booed team-mate Karim Benzema during Saturday’s 5-2 win over Real Sociedad.

In stoppage time, Benzema missed a sitter from close range and Madrid fans made their feelings known with jeers ringing out around the Bernabeu.

Ronaldo, who had scored a hat-trick, shook his head, waved his finger towards the crowd and applauded sarcastically.

The victory over Sociedad was just Madrid’s second win in their last six home matches.

They will have to raise their level if they hope to beat PSG, who are 12 points clear at the top of France’s Ligue 1.

Gareth Bale also delivered a message via Real’s Twitter account ahead of the match with PSG.

Bale said: ‘We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday and hopefully we can make history together again.’
