Danny Rose slams talk of a Mauricio Pochettino bust up

  • Tottenham beat APOEL Nicosia in the Champions League on Wednesday night
  • Mauricio Pochettino’s side qualified for the last 16 top of their group
  • Danny Rose was substituted as the result of a head injury at Wembley Stadium
  • The Spurs left back dismissed rumours that he is having issues with Pochettino
  • Rose insisted there isn’t an issue and added such discussions are ‘not welcomed’

Danny Rose has hit out at suggestions that he and Mauricio Pochettino are having issues, insisting there has never been a problem and never will be.

Rose walked down the tunnel when told he had to come off following a clash of heads during Tottenham’s 3-0 win over APOEL Nicosia on Wednesday night.

The England full-back, who is wanted by Manchester United, was asked afterwards about an exchange of words between himself and his boss.

Danny Rose has called for talk of a rift between himself and boss Mauricio Pochettino to stop

‘This is getting silly,’ Rose said. ‘The manager said it was best I came off and I didn’t want to come off. That was it.

‘I’ve seen already that people are saying we exchanged words. There is no issue between me and the manager. There has never been an issue.

‘People trying to put stuff in the media is not welcomed. For the last three-and-a-half years, the manager has been my biggest fan. He’s given me nothing but love and respect.

‘There is no issue. There never will be an issue. People need to stop this because it’s not welcomed.’

Tottenham’s win over Apoel was routine with them having already qualified top of their Champions League group. The draw for the last 16 will be on Monday.

‘Whoever is out there, we are confident we can beat anybody and we’ve proved that throughout the group stage,’ Rose continued. ‘We don’t fear anybody.

‘It’s not easy to go to the Bernabeu and get a point, and maybe we should have won the game. It’s not easy to beat Real Madrid convincingly here.

‘I hope teams look at those performances and realise Tottenham are a team to be feared. When we turn up, we can beat anybody on our night.

‘The manager would prefer us to have one of the top teams. He relishes those sorts of games.’
