Darlene Triffitt shares tip to save $1000 for Christmas

If you struggle to put any money away at the end of every month, there is a clever way that will help you save $1,000 in time for Christmas.

And rather than make drastic promises that are difficult to keep, a mother has shared a simple yet genius ‘hack’ that would take away the financial strain of the festive season.

Mother Darlene Triffitt, from Victoria, has been praised for her money-saving approach – that will see you have $1,000 in your back pocket – and it involves putting just $20 aside every week.

Taking to Simple Savers Facebook page, the woman revealed how she buys a different gift card when she does her grocery every week.

‘Here’s a little tip I’ve started doing to prepare for next Xmas,’ she said.

By loading the gift cards with just $25 a week, you would save at least $1,000 over the course of the year.

And when December rolls around, the vouchers will cover your Christmas groceries, alcohol, and more importantly the presents for your loved ones.

‘Each food shop I do I buy a $20-$25 gift card so by the time Xmas comes it will cover food, alcohol and presents and I don’t miss $20 in my food shopping.

‘This year I will be prepared.’

Speaking to Whimn, the mother explained how the end of year can be a daunting time for her because she faces other special occasions on top of the festive season.

‘I have two kids’ birthdays, Christmas, New Years and my birthday from the 20th of December until the 4th, and found it hard to be organised,’ she said.

‘I’m always buying my daughter gift cards for her birthday and Christmas, and thought if I buy one a week until December it will help to take the stress off over that busy time of the year.’
