A New York daycare worker was arrested on Thursday after she was accused of slapping a toddler multiple times.

Jeanine Sammis, 36, was caught on camera slapping a one-year-old girl in the back of the head on multiple occasions in September at KinderCare daycare in Manhasset, Long Island, Nassau County police say.

The child was not injured. Police said a worker at the day care recorded Sammis after witnessing the alleged abuse and then contacted authorities and Child Protective Services.

KinderCare issued a statement to WPIX that read: ‘We take all concerns about our teachers and staff seriously and follow a very specific protocol anytime a concern is raised.’

Grace Pok’s daughter attends KinderCare and told the news station that she found the allegations upsetting: ‘I feel terrible for the baby’s mom.’

Sammis, who lives in Hewlitt, Long Island, has worked for the daycare since August 2015 but quit last week to take a job elsewhere.

She has been charged with attempted assault second degree and endangering the welfare of a child. Sammis was released from jail but is expected back in court on Tuesday.

The Nassau County District Attorney’s office said she did not yet have a lawyer.

This is not the first time KinderCare, which has facilities across the United States, has had workers accused of inappropriate behavior towards children.

In July, 56-year-old Raul Tuban, who worked in the Gaithersburg, Maryland, location was accused of fondling a three-year-old girl while she slept at the center.

He is currently facing charges of sex abuse of a minor and third degree sex offense.
