Die-hard cyclist rides bike through Hurricane Irma

Incredible footage shows a die-hard cyclist biking through the flooded streets of Miami during Hurricane Irma.

Lucas Brunelle, 46, is the famed American videographer of bicycling stunts and races who went straight into the storm to catch the tailwind for a thrill ride.

Video taken from a fellow biker’s helmet shows Brunelle zooming through the streets with 140mph tailwinds.

Brunelle posted the video to Instagram for his 65,000 followers with the caption, ‘Yep that was me in the hurricane’.

Brunelle was with one other cyclist and online users speculate the bikers were out there to earn the coveted KOM title by Strava.

Strava, the social network for athletes, tracks workouts and connects millions of runners and cyclists. The site times rides pitting bikers against each other for the KOM (King of the Mountain) title.

The tailwinds from Irma definitely helped the riders pick up the pace as they zoomed along the water as waves crashed next to them.

Brunelle and his fellow rider even caught the attention of a CNN reporter covering the storm.

They rode passed during the reporter’s live shot who called the men ‘incredibly stupid’ and urged viewers not to follow their lead.

But Brunelle used his ‘incredibe stupidity’ to build a career. The biker from Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts is known for his dangerous riding style, often receiving criticism for avoiding traffic rules.

He often sports a helmet with double cameras to shoot his epic two-wheeled adventures while around the world.

His films have been featured in the Bicycle Film Festival the International Cycling Film Festival. His Instagram bio says, ‘If it wasn’t on film it didn’t happen’.
