‘Overdose’ death: Dr Ravindra Rajmane, 51, a pulmonologist at NYU Langone Medical Center, was found dead on Tuesday from a suspected heroin overdose

A pulmonologist at NYU Langone Medical Center has been found dead in his Manhattan apartment after apparently overdosing on heroin marked ‘Knock Out King.’

A co-worker of Dr Ravindra Rajmane summoned police to his home on Park Avenue South at 9.30am on Tuesday after not hearing from him in several days and growing concerned for his well-being.

According to a New York Daily News report, citing police sources, NYPD officers who responded to the medic’s apartment near East 27th Street discovered several glassine envelopes in his room bearing the stamp ‘Knock Out King.’

NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce went on Twitter Wednesday and made a public plea, asking anyone with information about this brand of heroin to call CrimeStoppers.

The tweet did not mention Dr Rajmane by name, but characterized the fatality as an ‘overdose death’ and included the hashtag ‘#OpioidCrisis.’

Rajmane had not been seen since Friday, and a female colleague of his at Langone went to check up on him on Tuesday morning.

After knocking on the door of his apartment and getting no response, a maintenance worker was summoned to open the door.

Inside, Rajmane’s co-worker found the pulmonologist dead in his bed and ran out of the unit in tears, according to the Daily News. The paper also reported, citing a police source, that the man had been deceased for at least two days.

An autopsy is expected to be performed on Rajmane to determine the cause and manner of death.

DailyMail.com on Wednesday reached out to NYU Langone Medical Center for comment on the physician’s passing, but a spokesperson declined to provide a statement.
