Dog dies after left in hot Sydney car

A dog walker has left a dog locked in a car for most of the day in Sydney’s east, with the owner later finding her pet dead in the vehicle.

The four-year-old Keeshond was allegedly left in the car at Rose Bay on Tuesday morning.

The dog’s owner, a 46-year-old woman, became concerned when her pet had not been returned home and about 5.30pm she found the car with her dead animal inside, police say.

The RSPCA has been notified and a police investigation is underway.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, temperatures reached 22.41C at Rose Bay on Tuesday.

Temperatures are expected to reach at least 29C in Sydney on Wednesday and 35C on Thursday.

Police urge people not to leave pets in cars on hot days, saying it is an offence to do so even with the air conditioning on.
