A double suicide bombing in central Baghdad has killed at least 38 people, Iraqi officials said.

It is the second suicide bombing to take place in the Iraqi capital in just three days.

Terror attack: Iraqi security forces cordon off the area where a double suicide bombing killed at least 38 people and injured 105 in central Baghdad

‘Two suicide bombers blew themselves up in Tayyaran Square in central Baghdad,’ said Interior Ministry spokesman Major General Saad Maan

Tayyaran Square is a bustling centre of commerce and a place where day labourers gather in the early morning waiting for jobs.

An AFP photographer at the site of the bombing said many ambulances had gathered and security forces had been deployed in large numbers.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack but it bore the hallmarks of the Islamic State group, which has claimed many such attacks in the past.
