Elderly man in critical condition after being mowed down on a pedestrian crossing by a robbery get-away car in central London

  • Man in critical condition after being hit by get-away car in Kings Cross, London 
  • The incident happened at around 5:30pm Tuesday on York Way crossing
  •  Four men exited the vehicle to flee on foot – two were arrested nearby

An elderly man is in a critical condition after being hit by a get-away car escaping a robbery in Kings Cross, central London, today.

Police say the driver of the car refused to stop following the incident, instead driving away ‘at speed’ as officers chased after it. 

Four men exited the vehicle to flee on foot after the pedestrian was mowed down on a crossing on York way during rush hour- with two of the men were arrested nearby.

Witnesses took to Twitter to report the incident

Suffering life threatening injuries the pedestrian was rushed to hospital with an air ambulance landing nearby. 

A spokesman for the Metropolitan police said: ‘At around 5.30pm on Tuesday, officers responding to a robbery requested a vehicle suspected to be involved to stop.

‘The driver refused to do so and drove off at speed, colliding with a member of the public.

‘Four men are believed to have decamped from the vehicle and fled the scene.

‘Two men were arrested nearby on suspicion of robbery and taking and driving away and taken into custody where they remain

‘The male pedestrian is believed to have suffered life threatening injuries and taken to hospital where he remains.’ 

Police say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
