Elle Macpherson reveals alkaline diet changed her life

She may be known as The Body, but even the stunning Elle Macpherson spent years struggling with feeling bloated.

The Australian supermodel, who has graced the cover of Sports Illustrated five times, revealed that four years ago she was fighting constant fatigue and sugar cravings.

It wasn’t until Elle, now 53, was put on an alkaline diet by her nutritional doctor that everything started to change, she wrote for Get The Gloss.

In just two weeks Elle was feeling more balanced than ever, full of renewed energy, glowing skin, and nary a craving for sugar.

The first thing Elle had to do was make her diet more plant-based, which made a huge difference in her gut health.

‘When you are nourished and maintain a healthy PH balance, it assists with lowering acidity in the body that can lead to inflammation, low energy, weight gain, and accelerated ageing of the cells,’ she writes.

‘By reducing acid-forming foods and replacing them with “live” nutrients and raw vegetables and fruits, the body can return to a healthy balanced state and allow the digestive system and liver to rest and recuperate.’

Elle swapped red meat with fresh fish and began piling more greens like kale, spinach, and rocket onto her plate during meals, pairing it with lentils or quinoa.

The mother-of-two also invested in a dehydrator, which uses low temperatures to dry food, after learning nutrients can be lost in the cooking process.

After she got her gut health back on track, Elle realised that she was getting sick less often and sleeping better than ever.

‘Being healthy on the inside also shows on the outside. My eyes and skin are clearer, my hair and nails are stronger,’ she added.

But it wasn’t just her diet that the model decided to change.

Elle realised she needed to be kinder to her body, and now meditates every morning before hitting the gym with a green juice filled with veggies and lemon.

The jetsetter has also changed how she travels to keep her digestion in check, making sure to drink tons of water and avoiding heavy hotel meals.
