Emotional tributes pour in for young family torn apart in horrorific crash

Devastated friends and loved ones have left heartfelt tributes for a young family torn apart in a horrific car crash.

Amanda Kilmister, 37, and her twelve year-old son were killed instantly when a truck carrying offal ploughed head first into the family’s vehicle on the Murray Valley Highway in Brimin in Victoria’s far north on Friday night.

Her two-year-old and eight-month-old sons as well her 44-year-old husband Paul, were airlifted to hospital after the collision.

A friend of the family, Skye Shelton, told the Herald Sun that the crash was ‘devastating’.

‘Her little boy had a heart of gold. He was cheeky and he will be missed.’ she said.

‘Amanda loves her boys dearly. She’s was a great mum. Paul drives trucks for a living and works really hard. It’s devastating.’

It is believed the mother, Amanda (pictured left) was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash that instantly killed her and their 12-year-old son and critically injuring the father Paul, (pictured right) and their two-year-old and 8-month-old sons

Superintendent John Fitzpatrick said it is believed the mother was driving the car when it collided with the truck.

The 31-year-old truck driver, who was called in last minute for his first ever shift at his new job, was driving on the wrong side of the road at the time of the crash.

‘As you can imagine, the gravity of that scene, to see a family in that position was very difficult,’ Superintendent Fitzpatrick told media in a press conference on Saturday.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries and stopped to try and help the family at the scene.

Investigators will determine whether distraction, fatigue or drugs were apart of the cause of the incident.

He is expected to be charged over the crash.

The two young children are currently at the Royal Children’s Hospital while the father remains at The Alfred Hospital.

The family’s fourth son, who’s in his teens, was staying at a friends place overnight and therefore was not in the car at the time.
