Ex-Charlton striker Montell Moore, 21, charged with rape

Montell Moore, 21, arrives at Uxbridge Magistrates Court

Former Charlton footballer Montell Moore has been charged with raping a 17-year-old girl he met on Tinder.

The professional footballer is accused of using his fame to rape the teenage fan with his housemate Sofian Zoberi, 22, before taking and sending naked photos of the victim.

Moore, 21, a former Brentford and Charlton Athletic striker, met the girl on Tinder before inviting her to his house where the pair had sex, the court was told.

But Uxbridge Magistrates heard when the victim asked Moore to stop he refused and co-defendant Zoberi is alleged to have joined in.

Together they are accused of raping the student before taking photos of her and distributing them on the night of March 12 last year.

Negeen Momtahen, prosecuting, said: ‘The complainant is 17-years-old, she makes allegations against both of the defendants, both of them are over 18.

‘She met Mr Moore on Tinder about a week before the allegation itself, she knew that he was a footballer and he played for Charlton Athletic football club.

‘She went to his house in order to meet him and when she was there she met Mr Zoberi who Mr Moore described as someone who was his friend and whom he shared the house with.

‘The complainant goes on to have sex with Mr Moore and the allegation is that at some point it is no longer consensual and at some point Mr Zoberi joins in and that has not been consensual from the outset.

‘In relation to the sexual assault they are in the sexual intercourse which takes place.

‘In relation to the photographs, when the police officers arrested the defendants that is something that was found on their mobile phones.’

Moore appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates Court wearing black jeans worn low and revealing his grey boxer shorts, and a white shirt under a black Tommy Hilfiger jumper.

He was seen smiling and chatting on the phone before his appearance and stood up for the judge with his arms folded.

Moore scored on his debut for Championship club Brentford in a first round Capital One Cup tie in August 2014.

He signed a new three-year contract a few days later, but lost his place in the squad.

Moore went out on loan to Burnham and Danish team Midtjylland, but his Brentford contract was cancelled by mutual consent in February 2016.

He signed for Charlton Athletic for the remainder of the 2015/16 season.

In January this year, he joined Maltese Premier League club Hibernians and won the first senior silverware of his professional career when the club claimed the league title.

After receiving international clearance, Moore returned to England to join Isthmian League Premier Division club Enfield Town last month.

Moore, of Brentford, west London, faces three charges of rape, a charge of sexual assault and taking indecent photographs of a child and distributing them.

Zoberi, of Isleworth, west London, faces two charges of rape of a woman over 16, a charge of sexual assault and taking indecent photographs of a child and distributing them.

The pair, who were bailed on condition that don’t contact each other, are due to appear at Isleworth Crown Court later this month.
