Fans injured after barrier collapses at football stadium

  • Match between Amiens and Lille halted after stand collapsed

  • The bottom of the stand appears to give way as hundreds of fans fall to the floor
  • Emergency services and those in higher tiers desperately help up those injured 

At least 18 people have been injured and three are in a serious condition after a barrier collapsed at a top-flight French football match.  

Injured fans have been rushed away from the 12,000-capacity Stade de la Licorne stadium in Amiens by ambulance after people plummeted several feet from the stand down near the pitch.

It is unknown whether the match between Amiens and Lille will continue. 

Fans in the away stand were celebrating Fode Ballo-Toure’s opener in the 15th minute when the stand collapsed.

Emergency services and fans in the stand flood onto the pitch in a bid to avoid the crush.
