A bald fisherman had to have one of his own hooks removed from his head after an accident during his cast.

Daan van Dijk, 46, was angling for carp at Lac du Salagou in the south of France when he hooked himself on September 30.

The angler had prepared several lines with bait and large metal hooks when he was distracted by a friend as he prepared to cast his rod.

Van Dijk’s shaved head was struck by the hook, which pierced his skin and came back out through – firmly snagging him when he had been hoping for a large fish.

Luckily, his friend Arjan Castelijns was on hand and had to remove the sharp hook from his head.

Van Dijk, who is from Noord-Brabant, Netherlands, was taking a holiday at the time and said it was an ’embarrassing accident’.

He said: ‘Thankfully my friend was a good doctor and he could help me out.

‘It was a bit of an embarrassing accident and little take more care in the future.’
