Fun-runners and cyclists brave the sub-zero conditions

Huge groups of fun-runners and cyclists have braved the wintry conditions and got into the festive spirit by helping raise money for charity.

Hundreds of cyclists wearing Santa Claus costumes and a handful of runners wearing nothing more than their Speedos took to the streets of London this weekend.

Near-naked fun runners braved the freezing cold temperatures and helped collect money from shoppers for the Peter Westropp Memorial Trust in the last week before Christmas.

Police officers attending the aptly named ‘Budgie Smuggler Run’ could not contain their laughter when they ran past them while attending a roadblock in Chelsea.

Meanwhile in London this morning, hundreds of cyclists made their way down Oxford Street in their festive attire as shoppers on the busy road looked on.

The London Santa Cruise on Oxford Street helped to raise money for Evelina London Children’s Hospital (ECHO). The annual event began three years ago after Stephane Wright’s son Tommy, who suffered a heart attack and nearly died.

Tommy was only six months old when he suffered a heart attack and nearly died in October 2014. He spent four weeks in the Paediatric Intensive Care and the High Dependency Unit.

And the Peter Westropp Memorial Trust website, which is what the runners in Chelsea were helping to raise money for, helps to provide unpaid assistance to family and friends unable to cope on their own.

The Trust donates directly to charities, such as the Carers Trust, whose role it is to help the carers cope with the emotional and physical strain of caring by providing comfort.
