A video game fanatic plunged to his death after leaning over a fourth-floor balcony to get better internet signal.

He was playing Realm of Valor with his friends when he complained using the chat function that his smartphone had poor 4G reception.

The student, from Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna in Chiang Mai, then climbed onto his room’s narrow balcony at the Hip Bangkok in the early hours of yesterday morning, classmates said.
Upon realizing Pattanadej’s on-screen character hadn’t moved in the computer game for several minutes, his friends – who were also at the hotel – visited his room to investigate.
They looked out of the window and noticed a security guard tending to Pattanadej’s injured body on the ground below.
Paramedics arrived but were unable to revive the student, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The group had been staying together ahead of the RoV Pro League Season 3 tournament in the Thai capital – which they planned to compete in as a team, officers were told.

One friend said: ‘Pattanadej complained about a poor signal and I saw him walking out to play on the balcony. And that was the last time we saw him.’
Security guard Nuan Sriboonruang, 28, told police he found the young man ‘covered in blood’’ on the ground at around 1:00am.
He added: ‘I came to check the front of the hotel after hearing a loud noise. I saw him lying unconscious, covered with blood, so I called the rescuers.’
Rescuers from the Ruam Katanyu Foundation arrived and tried to save the young man but he was critically injured and was pronounced dead at 1.30 AM.

Inspector Suchin Phonprapaponchai from the Huai Khwang district police station said the death was being treated as an accident.
He said: ‘There was a crack on the back of the head. He was unconscious and breathing initially.
‘The rescue teams tried to help pump the heart to the best of their ability but he could not be saved.
‘From the investigation, the deceased’s friends testified that before the incident, Mr. Pattanadej stayed on the fourth floor.
‘The phone signal of the deceased was not good therefore [he] came out on the balcony. A friend noticed that his character did not move so checked the balcony and saw he had fallen down and was injured.’
