Gary Glitter is living a life of luxury as he settles into a new prison featuring exotic fish ponds and vast lawns, it has been reported.

The 74-year-old paedophile, real name Paul Gadd, recently moved from HMP Albany on the Isle of Wight to HMP The Verne, on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, The Sun reports.

He can play on a giant chess set on the lawn, visit the Category C prison’s own miniature farm or relax at the edge of an ornamental pond full of koi carp.

The 120 inmates’ cells have 20-inch flatscreen TVs and tea-making facilities, and criminals have their own door keys.

The jail, which only houses sex offenders, provides a gym and an all-weather football pitch.

A source told The Sun: ‘They have special privileges as they are older prisoners deemed to be well behaved.’

The source added: ‘It’s like a holiday camp in there. To think some of these people have raped children, the public would be disgusted to see how they live.

‘Because it’s all sex offenders together they feel safe and there is no trouble.’

The glam rock singer was found guilty of attempted rape, indecent assault and having sex with a girl under 13 following investigations into historic sex offences.

The former entertainer dramatically fell from grace when he was charged with historic child sex offences.

He was found guilty of attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault and one count of having sex with a girl under the age of 13 following investigations by Operation Yewtree.

He was sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2015, but is thought to be due for release in three and a half years, the Sun reported.

HMP The Verne, a former immigration removal centre, holds 120 sex offenders but is due to house 650 after its £33million improvement is complete.

The Ministry of Justice said: ‘As with all closed prisons, strict security measures are in place.’
