The actress tied her look together with simple black heeled sandals, which tied at the ankle with a bow, and a co-ordinating black clutch bag, as she ignored the cold and posed confidently for cameras.

The acting duo first proved their close friendship by posing and sharing a number of jokes together on the carpet, before Gary later joined his wife Gisele Schmidt – clad in a sophisticated floral midi dress – for further photos.

The night was no doubt an exciting one for Gary – as he has been nominated for a Golden Globe award in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama category for his role as the former Prime Minister.

After receiving the happy news on Monday, the British screen star said: ”I am amazed, flattered and very proud of my first Golden Globe nomination. I am also honored to find myself in such company as I am a serious admirer of all the work of all the other nominees.’

The film stars Gary as British wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill who showcased a jaw-dropping transformation to play the revered Briton.

Oldman is joined in the historical drama by a stellar cast that includes Kristin as Clementine Churchill, Stephen Dillane as Viscount Halifax, the foreign secretary and Lily James as Churchill’s personal secretary Elizabeth Nel.

The Joe Wright directed feature tells the story of how the British establishment reluctantly invited Churchill to replace Neville Chamberlain after he was weakened politically by the ongoing aggression of Adolf Hitler and the failure of his Munich Agreement.

On the day Churchill took office, Germany invaded Belgium, the Netherlands and France and shortly thereafter the British Expeditionary Force was backed into a corner on the beaches of Dunkirk.

With his foreign secretary Lord Halifax and his generals warning of catastrophe and urging him to seek peace talks with Hitler, Church gives a rousing and impassioned speech to the House Of Commons, committing Britain to ongoing war with Germany and saying Britain will never surrender.

The movie opens with Chamberlain explaining: ‘It is now time to pick my successor and there is only one man that the opposition will accept.’

There is then a riposte from one of his cabinet when it’s clear that that ‘one man’ is Churchill.

‘He stands for one thing and on thing only – himself.’

Darkest Hour will open in the UK on January 12, making it a contender for the Academy Awards.
