‘What does give me hope is, you know, so Obama used to say, you know, ”Progress isn’t always a straight line.” Which — who knows how true it is? But I believe it,’ Peele said.

The director also says he believes his film is more timely than ever in light of the president’s often controversial statements about immigration.

In the interview with CBS’s Tracy Smith, he says Get Out is part of a larger conversation taking place, and artists are looking to find ways to bring the dialogue of diversity and race into their works.

‘So, what I am encouraged by is that the movie ‘Get Out’ has been heard and received, and that I’m seeing many other examples of art and film and television that are expressing these pains, frustrations, love in new ways, and that they’re being received. And that I think will create progress,’ Peele said.

Get Out stars Daniel Kaluuya, who meets his white girlfriend’s parents for the first time, played by Girls’ actress Allison Williams.

As the visit continues, Daniel’s character begins to suspect things aren’t quite as they seem, with his fears confirmed in horrifying fashion.

Peele, who was previously best known for his comedy duo sketch team ‘Key & Peele,’ with Keegan-Michael Key, says he is no longer interested in acting.

‘Acting is just nowhere near as fun for me as directing,’ he said.

Peele’s interview airs this Sunday with Smith on CBS, at 9am EST.
