Gianluigi Buffon says Juventus can ‘achieve the impossible’ against Real Madrid

  • Juventus take a 3-0 deficit to Real Madrid in the Champions League’s last eight
  • No team have ever overturned a 3-0 home loss in a Champions League tie
  • Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri said: ‘We’ll need to play a complete game’

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has insisted that his side have not given up hope of pulling off a record-breaking turnaround against Real Madrid.

Real won the first leg of the sides’ Champions League quarter-final 3-0 in Turin last week and the consent concludes in Madrid on Wednesday night.

No team have ever overturned a 3-0 home loss in a two-legged Champions League tie, but Allegri believes it is possible as long as his team do everything right.

‘We’ll need to play a complete game against a complete team if we are to get a positive result,’ said Allegri on Tuesday.

‘Nobody expected us to concede after two minutes in Turin, so why can’t we do the same tomorrow.’

Allegri was speaking at a press conference held at the Bernabeu where he and his players had been assessing the surroundings on the eve of Wednesday’s match.

Should Juventus fail to progress, the match will likely be veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon’s last in the Champions League.

At the press conference, Buffon added: ‘Trying to achieve the impossible will help us achieve the possible.

‘This is what we need to do. We need to play with this kind of spirit against an amazing side.’
