Glow Recipes creates new sell out watermelon product

The cult beauty brand behind a watermelon face mask that amassed a waiting list of thousands has now unveiled a moisturiser made from the same fruit.

Korean firm Glow Recipe says its new Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturiser is 90% watermelon – and it’s already out of stock based on pre-orders alone, after the brand teased the new product on its Instagram account.

Customers are being advised to sign up for an email notification when the moisturiser, which costs $39 (£28), is back in stock.

It follows the shopping frenzy triggered when Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Glow Sleep Mask began attracting enthusiastic reviews online.

Word spread among beauty aficionados and the product quickly built up a staggering 5,000-strong waiting list, according to Teen Vogue.

The brand lists the fruit’s ability to soothe inflammation, rehydrate and repair environmental damage among its skin boosting benefits.

Korean brand Glow Recipe is releasing a new watermelon product called the Glow Pink Juice Moisturiser, which is made up of 90% watermelons

According to Glow Recipe’s website the first batch of the Glow Pink Moisturiser will ship out to early bird customers this week – but others wanting to get their hands on a bottle will have to wait until more stock becomes available.

The cream, which is packed with 90% watermelon according to Glow Recipe, promises to ‘flood skin with weightless hydration and instant radiance’.

That’s an even higher concentration of watermelon that that featured in the brand’s best selling Sleeping Mask.

It also contains ‘plumping hyaluronic acid, and soothing botanicals like peony and jasmine extracts’.

Watermelon is traditionally used in Korea for its soothing and restorative effects on inflamed and irritated skin.

The website reads: ‘Our uniquely textured gel-emulsion uses watermelon extract to provide a burst of cooling hydration that soothes and refreshes tired, lacklustre, skin instantly.’

Ways watermelon can aid your skin…

Its water content is so high it helps to keep the skin hydrated – and therefore looking more supple.

Watermelon is packed full of antioxidants, including vitamins C and A and lycopene. They help to combat the free radicals that damage our cells and speed up the signs of ageing.

Vitamin A also boosts collagen keeping skin plump, and can reduce the amount of oil that the skin’s sebaceous glands secrete – helping to ward off breakouts.

In addition to attracting a hefty waiting list, Glow Recipe’s first watermelon-based product sold out three more times following restocks.

It is now available on the website with over 200 five star reviews from satisfied customers.

For those shoppers who don’t wait to take their chances with that daunting waiting list, many skincare devotees have started to make their own watermelon masks.

The Australian site Mama Mia says fresh watermelon blended with filtered water makes a good natural toner.

The website also suggests chilled thinly sliced melon works as a face mask for sunburnt skin, or using the juice as a cooling mist.
