Great-grandmother with dementia thinks she’s 29 years old

Age is nothing but a number, especially for one woman celebrating her 95th birthday.

In an adorable video, Rose Demitri of Gloucester, Massachusetts, boldly tells the camera that she believes she is just 29 years old – when in fact the clip was filmed as she was turning 95.

In the two-minute clip someone can be heard asking the great-grandmother, who has dementia, how old she thinks she is.

Keeps getting younger: In the beginning of the two-minute she says she's 49

Nothing but a number: Rose Demitri, 95, of Gloucester, Massachusetts, believes she’s 29 years old in a video that sees her celebrating her 95th birthday

At first, she says she’s 49 but after some thoughtful consideration she then says she’s 59 years old.

Moments later someone can be heard asking Rose once again how old she thinks she is but this time she says she’s 45.

And as family members start lighting the candles on her birthday cake, Rose asks: ‘Whose birthday? Mine?’

Family members can be heard saying yes in the background before Rose asks: ‘How young am?’

But before anyone can respond, she answers her own question and says that she’s 29.

‘You’re getting younger by the minute,’ someone says while another person asks if Rose feels like she’s 95.

‘I still feel like I’m 29,’ she says. ‘Numbers are just numbers – it’s how you use them right? As long as I don’t jump up and down and act stupid, I’ll be alright.’

Rose’s family then starts to sing her happy birthday. She has a little bit of trouble at first but after a few attempts, she successfully blows out her candles.

These days, Rose doesn’t remember a lot but when she does, it’s the important stuff such as age is nothing but a number.

Her great-granddaughter, 21-year-old, Renne Randazoo, said: ‘She’s such a sweet woman but she’s had dementia for a few years but it’s just going worse. When she was younger, she was a fisherman’s wife so she stayed at home with the kids.’

‘She has good days and bad days and on her good days she’s so happy. She loves her birthday and she always remembers “March 8th is my birthday.'”

Renne added that Rose prefers a marble cake but her family bought her a chocolate.

‘We always remind her she’s 95 and she always says no I’m 59 – she always thinks she’s younger than she is.’
